Backup and disaster recovery

When something fails, how quickly can you be back, and how much can you afford to lose? We help you decide, then make it true.

What's included

  • Business impact workshop: recovery time (RTO) and data loss (RPO) per system
  • Backup design: 3-2-1 copies, offsite and immutable (ransomware-resistant) copies
  • DR site design, on premises or in the cloud, with failover runbooks
  • Scheduled restore tests and DR drills with reports
  • Backup monitoring every day

3-2-1 backups

Diagram: 3-2-1 backups. Text version below.
Text version of this diagram
  • Production data → Copy 1: local backup
  • Production data → Copy 2: different storage
  • Copy 2: different storage → Copy 3: offsite, immutable
  • Copy 3: offsite, immutable → Production data (restore tested on schedule)

Who it's for

  • Any business that can't afford to lose a day's data
  • Companies worried about ransomware
  • Teams that have never tested a restore

What you get

  • Recovery targets agreed per system
  • Backup design with off-site immutable copies
  • DR runbook
  • Restore tests and DR drills with reports

Questions

We back up every night. Isn't that enough?
Only if the copies are offsite, can't be changed by ransomware, and have been restored successfully recently.
How often should we test DR?
At least yearly for the full plan, and monthly for sample restores.
How much does DR cost?
It depends on how fast you need to recover; cloud-based DR often costs far less than a second site.
